ManyChat vs PlugKit: the honest comparison
ManyChat vs PlugKit, the short answer: pick ManyChat if all you need is conversation automation with a visual builder and a free start. Pick PlugKit if you also want to publish to your networks and run everything from your AI assistant, paying per connected account instead of per contact.

Verdict
Two tools, two jobs. ManyChat automates conversations (DMs and comments) on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, TikTok and Telegram, with a free plan. PlugKit posts and converses from Claude or ChatGPT, at a flat price per connected account. We tested its comment-to-DM on a real Instagram account on 22 October 2026: the DM arrived within seconds. If DMs are all that matter and you publish elsewhere, go ManyChat. If you want one AI to post, reply and follow up, go PlugKit.
Choose ManyChat if
- You want to start at $0: the Free plan covers 25 active contacts per month.
- You need TikTok DMs, SMS or email in the same tool.
- You want very specific Instagram automations: Follow to DM, Live to DM, story mentions.
- You'd rather build flows in a visual editor than by talking to an AI.
Choose PlugKit if
- You want to post and schedule on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X and LinkedIn from the same tool.
- You want to run everything from Claude or ChatGPT, with no extra dashboard to learn.
- Your audience is growing: PlugKit charges per connected account ($49 for 5), not per active contact.
- You want broadcast messages on Instagram: ManyChat's grid lists its broadcasts as excluding Instagram and TikTok.

The real difference: a DM bot or an assistant that runs your accounts
ManyChat is a conversation automation tool. You build flows in its editor: someone comments a keyword, they get a DM; someone replies to your story, they enter a sequence. That’s its core job, and it does it well.
PlugKit comes from the other direction. It’s an API plus an MCP server that give your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT and others) access to your accounts. You type what you want in plain English, your AI drafts it, you approve, PlugKit runs it: publishing, reading comments, answering DMs, sending your link to people who comment. One conversation instead of three tools.
So the question isn’t “which one is best”. It’s this: do you need a DM bot, or an assistant that manages your social accounts?
Comment-to-DM: both handle it
This is the use case everyone comes for: someone comments “AUTO” under your post and gets your link by DM. ManyChat offers it, with variations PlugKit’s documentation doesn’t mention (Follow to DM, Live to DM, story mentions).
We ran it for real with PlugKit on Occirank’s Instagram account on 22 October 2026, as part of our PlugKit review: one request to Claude, a summary to check, then a real comment from a second account. The public reply and the DM arrived within seconds. It’s all on video (in French, with an English summary):
Three Meta rules frame comment-to-DM on Instagram, according to PlugKit’s documentation read on 24 October 2026. They apply to any tool connected to the Instagram API; the ManyChat page we read doesn’t detail them:
- One private reply per comment, and only within 7 days of the comment.
- The 24-hour window: more than 24 hours after the person’s last message, a free-form message won’t go through.
- A professional account (creator or business) is required.
Pricing: per active contact or per connected account
This is where the two tools part ways. Prices read on 24 October 2026 on the official pages (excluding taxes for ManyChat; PlugKit’s pricing page doesn’t mention taxes):
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | What’s counted |
|---|---|---|---|
| ManyChat Free | $0 | $0 | 25 active contacts, 2 channels, 4 active automations |
| ManyChat Essential | $17 | $14 | 250 active contacts, then $0.10 per extra contact |
| ManyChat Pro | $39 | $29 | 2,500 active contacts, then $0.05 per extra contact |
| ManyChat Business | $99 | $69 | 7,500 active contacts, then $0.025 per extra contact |
| PlugKit Creator | $49 | No annual plan published | 5 connected accounts, contacts not counted |
| PlugKit Pro | $97 | No annual plan published | 30 connected accounts, then $3 per account from 31 to 100 |
Run the numbers with your own audience. Example with 3,000 active contacts a month on Instagram, monthly billing:
- ManyChat Pro: $39 + (3,000 minus 2,500) × $0.05 = $64 a month.
- PlugKit Creator: $49 a month, whatever your contact count, as long as you stay at 5 accounts.
The break-even sits at 2,700 active contacts: below that, ManyChat Pro costs less than PlugKit Creator. With 200 active contacts, ManyChat Essential at $17 costs roughly a third of PlugKit’s price, and annual billing lowers ManyChat’s base prices further ($14 for Essential, $29 for Pro). ManyChat also says its prices vary by billing country: check its page before you compare. Full breakdown on our ManyChat pricing and PlugKit pricing pages.
Publishing to your networks: PlugKit does it, ManyChat doesn’t mention it
ManyChat’s official grid lists no posting or scheduling feature (read on 24 October 2026). If you want to post and converse from the same tool, PlugKit does both.
PlugKit publishes to Instagram (feed, reels, stories), a Facebook Page, TikTok, YouTube, X and your LinkedIn profile (not company Pages). In the demo below, one sentence to Claude produces three drafts, each with a caption adapted to its network:

PlugKit runs a hosted MCP server: in Claude, you add a custom connector with the address https://api.plugkit.co/mcp, sign in, and that’s it. No install, no code. Its docs list 103 tools, with a read-only scope if you want your AI to look without touching.
On ManyChat’s side, we found no official MCP server on its site as of 24 October 2026, only third-party connectors (Zapier’s, for instance). ManyChat does have its own AI features from the Pro plan up: AI-generated replies, AI Goals, a knowledge base and intent recognition.
What ManyChat does better
Let’s be straight, because this is what will save you time:
- Entry price: a permanent free plan and a $17 plan ($14 billed annually).
- Conversation channels: TikTok DMs, SMS and email, which PlugKit doesn’t handle.
- Instagram depth: Follow to DM, Live to DM, story mentions, 60+ templates.
- The visual editor: if you like seeing your flows as boxes and arrows, that’s its home turf.
- Integrations: HubSpot, Klaviyo, Stripe, PayPal, Google Sheets, Zapier and Make from the Pro plan.
Moving from ManyChat to PlugKit without breaking anything
- List your active automations in ManyChat: trigger word, posts covered, message sent.
- Rebuild the first one with your AI. Example request: “When someone comments GUIDE under my latest reel, reply publicly and send them my guide link by DM.”
- Test with a second account: comment, then check the public reply and the DM.
- Switch off the ManyChat automation on those same posts, so the two tools don’t fight over the single private reply Instagram allows.
- Repeat for the next ones, one at a time.
If you’re still weighing other tools, our ManyChat alternative guide sorts seven of them by need.
The classic trap: leaving both tools live on the same post. Only one will send the DM.
Frequently asked questions
Is ManyChat free?
Partly. The Free plan covers 25 active contacts per month, 2 channels and 4 active automations, with ManyChat branding. Essential starts at $17 per month billed monthly, or $14 per month billed annually (prices read on manychat.com on 24 October 2026, excluding taxes).
How much does ManyChat cost per month?
On monthly billing: Essential $17, Pro $39, Business $99 and Advanced $199, each with a quota of active contacts and a fee per extra contact. Annual billing lowers that to $14, $29, $69 and $139 per month. ManyChat says prices depend on your billing country.
Does PlugKit have a free plan?
No. PlugKit offers a 7-day trial with no credit card and one connected account during the trial. After that, Creator costs $49 per month for 5 accounts and Pro $97 for 30 accounts, monthly billing only (prices read on plugkit.co on 24 October 2026).
Which one is cheaper?
It depends on what grows on your side. ManyChat charges by active contacts, PlugKit by connected accounts. With few contacts, ManyChat costs less; with several thousand active contacts a month on 5 accounts or fewer, PlugKit stays at $49. The detailed math is in the pricing section.
Does ManyChat work with TikTok?
Yes for conversations: its official grid lists TikTok DM automation and TikTok Messaging Ads. Posting to TikTok isn't mentioned. PlugKit is the reverse: it publishes TikTok videos and reads analytics, but its docs state that TikTok's API doesn't expose messaging or comments to third-party apps.
Can ManyChat publish my posts?
Its official pricing grid lists no posting or scheduling feature (read on 24 October 2026). ManyChat is a conversation tool.
Is PlugKit harder to set up than ManyChat?
No code on either side. In Claude, you add a custom connector with the address https://api.plugkit.co/mcp, sign in, then describe your automation in plain English; your AI shows you a summary before it creates anything. ManyChat has you build the same flow in its visual editor instead.
Can I keep ManyChat and add PlugKit?
Yes, but not on the same comments: Instagram allows a single private reply per comment. If two automations watch the same post, only one can send its DM. Split your posts between the tools, or keep one tool for comment-to-DM.
