The best time to post on Instagram on Tuesday: the day the studies agree
The best time to post on Instagram Tuesday is late afternoon, between 3 and 7 p.m.: it's the one day where three of the four studies overlap this clearly (Sprout Social 1 to 7 p.m., Buffer 3, 5 and 7 p.m., Hootsuite 3 to 7 p.m.). Later remains the outlier, with 5 a.m. On your account, Tuesday deserves a proper late-afternoon test.

What the studies say about Tuesday
Local times, your followers’ time. Read on 24 October 2026.
| Source | Tuesday | Tuesday within the week |
|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social (2026) | 1 to 7 p.m. | one of its two best days, with Wednesday |
| Buffer (2026) | 7 p.m., then 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. | “high” engagement, third best day |
| Later (2024 data) | 5 a.m. | not ranked; best day for carousels |
| Hootsuite (2026) | 5 to 8 a.m., and 3 to 7 p.m. | among the best days, with Monday and Thursday |
| Hootsuite, UTC | 4 to 7 p.m. | one of three slots listed for UTC |
On Tuesday, three studies agree
It’s rare, so take note: between 3 and 7 p.m., Sprout Social, Buffer and Hootsuite overlap. Sprout Social opens the widest window (1 to 7 p.m., six hours straight) and calls it one of the strongest periods of the whole week. Buffer gives three slots, all inside it: 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Hootsuite’s UTC breakdown lands there too, 4 to 7 p.m.
Hootsuite adds a second window, 5 to 8 a.m. Later, with its 2024 data, sticks to its line: 5 a.m., as on almost every day.
Why the overlap? Sprout Social ties it to the workday: people open Instagram for a mental break at lunch, when classes end, then in the afternoon slump. That’s a vendor’s hypothesis, not a measurement of your audience.
Tuesday by industry
| Industry (study) | Tuesday |
|---|---|
| Computer Software & Tech (Sprout Social) | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Retail (Sprout Social) | 12 to 4 p.m. |
| Consumer goods and retail (Hootsuite) | 5 to 7 p.m. |
| Food & Beverage (Sprout Social) | 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Dining, hospitality and tourism (Hootsuite) | 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., like Monday |
| Schools & Education (Sprout Social) | 3 to 5 p.m., then 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Media and entertainment (Hootsuite) | 7 to 8 a.m. |
Even in retail, the two studies disagree: noon to 4 p.m. for Sprout Social, 5 to 7 p.m. for Hootsuite. Your industry narrows the search; it doesn’t replace it.
What my account says: promising, but too few posts
On my Occirank posts, Tuesday doesn’t have enough posts to conclude. In video 4, Claude rated Tuesday and Wednesday at noon as promising, but on two posts only. Two posts isn’t a slot.
That’s exactly why it put Tuesday 12 p.m. in the six-week test it suggested, with five posts per slot. I don’t have the results yet: that test is still to run.
Test Tuesday on your account
- Pick two Tuesday slots: noon, and 5 p.m., in the middle of the window the three studies share.
- Alternate from one Tuesday to the next for several weeks, with the same format (Reel against Reel, carousel against carousel).
- Read the grid in your local time and check each cell’s post count before comparing averages.
- Stop when one cell clearly beats the other across several posts, not on one good Tuesday.
Key takeaway
Tuesday is the safest day for a first test: three of four studies point to late afternoon. If you can only pick one day to start, pick this one. The next day the window gets even wider: see the best time to post on Instagram Wednesday.
