The right Hootsuite alternative for the way you work

Looking for a Hootsuite alternative? If the per-user price is what pushes you out ($99 per person per month on Standard, billed annually), you have options. Working solo and happy to hand the chores to your AI? Look at PlugKit, the only one we tested on a real account (22 October 2026). Want to start for free? Buffer or Metricool. Running an agency with lots of collaborators? Sendible (unlimited users) or Vista Social.

Why people look for a Hootsuite alternative

Hootsuite first, because it earns it. It’s a complete suite: publishing (Perch), inbox and customer care (Nest), social listening (Lumen, Talkwalker), AI, advocacy (Parliament) and ad management. It publishes to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky and Google Business Profile, and offers four official MCP servers for Claude and ChatGPT.

The reasons to leave mostly come down to its pricing model, read on 24 October 2026:

  • It’s priced per user: $99 per person per month on Standard, $199 on Professional, $399 on Advanced, billed annually. A team of 3 on Standard already costs $297 a month.
  • 10 social accounts on Standard: beyond that, you need Professional.
  • DM automation is reserved for Professional, according to its FAQ.
  • No free plan is mentioned, and the month-to-month price isn’t shown (the FAQ only says it costs more).
  • No public developer API is mentioned on its integrations page, and the MCP page doesn’t say which plans include the servers.

The detailed math by user profile is on our Hootsuite pricing page.

When Hootsuite is still the right choice

Keep Hootsuite if at least two of these apply:

  • You work as a team and need content approval, message assignment and routing, and productivity reports (Advanced plan).
  • Social listening matters to you: brand monitoring from Standard, 90-day trend forecasting on Professional, advanced listening over 13 months on Enterprise.
  • Your inbox spans many networks: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X and TikTok DMs and comments in one place.
  • Your company needs governance: SSO, compliance, a Salesforce integration (Enterprise, custom quote).

Four questions to pick an alternative

  1. What gets billed? Per user (Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Sprout Social), per channel (Buffer), per brand (Metricool), per profile tier (Sendible, Vista Social) or per connected account (PlugKit).
  2. What do you do every day? Publish, answer messages, automate DMs, build client reports.
  3. Who’s on the team? Just you, 2 to 5 people, or an agency with clients who approve content.
  4. How do you want to drive it? A dashboard with a calendar, or your AI assistant through an MCP server.

7 Hootsuite alternatives, sorted by need

No absolute ranking: each tool answers a specific need. Prices read on 24 October 2026 on the official pages. For the whole market, job by job, see our guide to the best social media management tools.

You’re solo or a small shop and you delegate to your AI: PlugKit

PlugKit is an API and an MCP server that your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) uses to publish to Instagram, a Facebook Page, TikTok, YouTube, X and your LinkedIn profile, answer DMs on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram, and send your link to people who comment. Comment-to-DM, broadcasts and follow-up sequences are included from the entry plan.

We tested it on Occirank’s account on 22 October 2026: a comment saying “AUTO” triggered the public reply and the DM within seconds. The full test is in our PlugKit review.

  • Price: $49 a month for 5 connected accounts, $97 for 30, monthly billing, no per-user pricing. 7-day trial, no card. The math for your number of accounts is on our PlugKit pricing page.
  • Skip it if: you need social listening, approval workflows, Pinterest or Google Business Profile, or a visual calendar (PlugKit doesn’t feature one).

  • Price: Free for 3 channels (10 scheduled posts per channel at a time); Essentials at $6 per channel per month, cheaper beyond 10 channels; Team at $12 per channel with unlimited users.
  • Skip it if: you want to handle DMs. Its inbox covers comments, and no private messaging is mentioned.

You want analytics and reports on a budget: Metricool

Metricool shines at analysis and reporting: unlimited history from Starter, PDF and PPT reports, Facebook Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads tracking. Its free plan includes its MCP server, and its Flows handle comment-to-DM on paid plans (“No extra cost for a limited time”, read on 24 October 2026).

  • Price: Free for 1 brand; Starter at $25 a month for up to 5 brands, $45 for up to 10; Advanced (teams and approvals) from $67 for 15 brands.
  • Skip it if: you want X without a paid add-on, or WhatsApp and Telegram (not listed). See our Metricool vs PlugKit comparison.

You run an agency with many collaborators: Sendible

Sendible doesn’t charge per user: every plan includes unlimited users. It organizes work by client workspace, connects client accounts without password sharing and offers white labeling as an option.

  • Price: Core at $35 a month for 6 profiles; Plus at $99 for 18 profiles; Premium at $199 for 42 profiles. 14-day trial, no card.
  • Skip it if: you want an API, an MCP server or DM automations (not mentioned on its pricing page). Sends are capped at 100 to 500 per day per workspace.

You do community management as a team: Agorapulse

Agorapulse brings together an inbox (comments, DMs, reviews) with moderation and automated rules, ROI measurement, competitor benchmarking and PowerPoint reports. It connects to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP labeled “self-hosted”.

  • Price: Standard at $99 per user per month ($79 billed annually) for 10 profiles; Professional at $149 ($119 annually). 30-day trial, no card.
  • Skip it if: you want to avoid per-user pricing, or you need the API (Custom plan only).

You run social customer care at scale: Sprout Social

Sprout Social targets structured teams: a consolidated inbox, review management, listening as a module, advanced analytics and the Trellis AI agent. It isn’t a cheaper alternative, it’s an alternative for a different need.

  • Price: Essentials at $99 per seat per month ($79 annually) for 5 profiles, up to $399 per seat per month on Advanced, billed annually. 30-day trial, no card.
  • Skip it if: your budget is tight, or you want the API without moving to Advanced.

You want DM automations built into a suite: Vista Social

Vista Social combines publishing, inbox, customer reviews, reporting and DM automations on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, from its entry plan. It has an MCP and a documented API.

  • Price: Professional at $99 a month ($950 a year) for 15 profiles and 2 users; Advanced at $199 for 30 profiles and 3 users.

Leaving Hootsuite cleanly

  1. Note your renewal date: Hootsuite shows its prices on annual billing (monthly billing exists, at a higher price).
  2. List what you actually use: networks, scheduled posts, inbox streams, reports, automations.
  3. Run your alternative side by side during its trial, on one or two accounts.
  4. Rebuild your DM automations one at a time, and never let two tools answer the same Instagram comments: only one private reply is allowed per comment.
  5. Keep a copy of your reports before your subscription ends, so you don’t lose your history.

If you work alone, the real question isn’t which tool. It’s how many seats you’re paying for nothing.
